Spondylolisthesis Symptoms and Treatment
What is spondylolisthesis?
Spondylolisthesis begins as a stress fracture or crack in one of the vertebrae bones of the spine. This is known as spondylolysis. If the stress fracture is severe enough, it can weaken the vertebrae and cause it to slip out of place leading to the condition known as spondylolisthesis. The out-of-place vertebrae puts stress on the spinal cord and the nerves that branch off of it, causing pain, numbness, and tingling throughout the low back.
What causes spondylolisthesis?
Spondylolisthesis is most commonly seen in aging adults with arthritic symptoms. The intervertebral discs lose elasticity over time which can lead to a vertebrae slipping out of place. Young athletes participating in sports during growth spurts can also develop spondylolisthesis after a lumbar injury.
What are the symptoms of spondylolisthesis?
Pain, numbness, or weakness will be felt in either the neck, arm, or leg, depending on the region the spondylolisthesis occurs. If it is in the lumbar region, spondylolisthesis may affect the sciatic nerve and lead to sciatica, or radiating pain down the leg.
What is the best back brace for spondylolisthesis?
The best back brace for spondylolisthesis in the lumbar region will provide targeted compression and spine stabilization. BioSkin utilizes a dual-pulley system to provide vectored and targeted compression to the spine and relieve pressure on the spinal nerves.
